Saw the “not an eagle” again. Turns out it is a young eagle.
They don’t become bald until they’re older, kinda like us.
Lucked out with this shot as ORTHROS scared him and he flew away.

35-hike.md
Hike started a bit further down the rocky beach due to tides.
We hiked about 1.5km to the trailhead. Saw a bald eagle along the way.
The trail was lush and green. Vocalizations of arctic ground squirrels.
Easy to navigate despite no maintenance since the previous year.
We went out on a hand tram over the river. The tram sat all three of us (two humans, one dog) and gave us quite the upper body workout on the way back.
It was pretty surreal being suspended half way across, directly over the river.
Finally, we hiked down to the glacier lake and had a light lunch of fruit and nut milk (pecan and buckwheat) that NEPHRITE made that morning.
After lunch, we took a small out and back across the point for another perspective on the glacier. There were a lot of birds, mostly gulls.
Finally, it was back up to the junction and down a series of switchbacks to a small dock where we met up with our boat for the ride back to Homer.
In total, it was approximately 15km hike.

We saw a few puffins up close, a group of sea otters, and hundreds of common mers!
Apparently the common mers are the deepest diving birds in the world.
